Gift givers' parking fines to be forgiven

12/1/2006

Owens Community College's Perrysburg Township campus will forgive parking fines for offenders who donate canned food or toys to needy families.

As part of the annual "Operation Breadbasket," individuals can leave clothing, toys, nonperishable food, and monetary donations at the college's safety and security offices in Alumni Hall on the Perrysburg Township campus until Dec. 15.

Between Tuesday and Dec. 11, each canned good or toy donated will reduce parking citations of up to $100.

"Each canned good donated will be worth $1," said Julee Cope, Owens' chief of safety and security.

"Therefore, a person who brings in 20 canned goods and owes a $20 parking fine will now have their fine paid in its entirety. For every $1 that a new toy is worth, the individual will receive a $2 credit."
