A Toledo steel-container manufacturer has been fined $25,000 for violating state laws concerning storage, labeling, and inspecting hazardous waste on its Dorr Street property, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency announced.
American Steel Associated Products Inc., 2375 Dorr, agreed to pay the civil fine in a settlement of charges brought following a site investigation in 2002, the agency said.
The company has resolved the violations, which included storing hazardous waste for more than 180 days without a permit, failing to keep hazardous waste containers closed except when adding or removing waste, and failing to conduct inspections of the hazardous waste storage area. The hazardous waste was shipped off the site in 2004 for proper disposal, the state EPA said.
The Ohio EPA Hazardous Waste Cleanup Fund will receive $20,000 from the fine, while the other $5,000 will go to the Ohio EPA Clean Diesel School Bus Fund.
