MONROE - A Monroe man was killed early yesterday morning in Frenchtown Township when he stepped on power lines that had fallen from a utility pole after he struck the pole with his vehicle.

John Polacheck, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene on North Stony Creek Road between Telegraph and War roads, the Monroe County Sheriff's office said.

Mr. Polacheck was westbound on North Stony Creek about 2 a.m. when he went off the road and struck the utility pole.

The vehicle overturned and Mr. Polacheck was able to escape by kicking out a rear window.

After doing so, he walked up the road, where he stepped on and fell over the active power lines that had fallen from the utility pole he struck, the sheriff's office said.
