Marschall out for the season

Bowling Green coach Dan Dakich just said on the coaches' conference call that sophomore Erik Marschall will miss the remainder of the Falcons' season (three-plus games) after suffering a knee injury in the Akron game.

In the first half, Nate Miller drove down the lane, ran into Akron's Jeremiah Wood and both fell down. One of them fell on Marschall, and his kneecap popped out. He also sprained a ligament.

It's doubtful freshmen posts Marc Larson and Otis Polk will be able to replace Marschall's nine points a game, because neither has gotten but a few touches on the offensive end in the limited minutes they've played this year.

The two played 21 minutes combined on Saturday and did pick up four rebounds (Marschall's average) between the two of them. They did something Marschall couldn't do, though - collect six fouls.

It's the end of a somewhat frustrating season for Marschall, who showed flashes of some pretty good offensive talent. He scored 14 points in the first half back in December against Arkansas State before breaking his foot in the game. He made 8-of-8 shots against Western Michigan, and scored 18 against Morehead State.

After missing a month with the broken foot, when he returned he sometimes wasn't able to get into the flow of games and ended up in foul trouble. The Falcons will need him to be the second-leading scorer next year.
