2 out of 4 AGAIN

  • Apparently I ll be fantastic in calling who will be kicked off American Idol when there s just ONE person going home. Again, I was right on two out of the four contestants who were booted off the show Thursday night during the results show.

I made the call for Leslie Hunt, 24, and Nick Pedro, 25, both of whom are packing it up to go home. Simon was right on when he said that Nick was a good singer, but he lacked charisma. You couldn t stand out in the crowd, he said. That was a problem.

But I didn t expect that America would send home the adorable Alaina Alexander, 24, (though she definitely deserved to go). My heart went out to her when she couldn t sing I m Not Ready To Make Nice because she was too teary-eyed and emotional. But there are just so many girls who still deserve to be there.

I admit that I was toying with guessing that AJ Tabaldo, 22, would get voted off, but he did so well that I thought America would save him. Even Sanjaya Malakar, 17, said he was shocked to be coming back next week and rightly so. AJ is a much stronger singer than the young Sanjaya. But Sanjaya has the charisma, and connects with the audience because he s sensitive and innocent.

All three judges made some reference that they weren t sure that America voted to send the right contestants home.

This is a singing competition, yet I don t feel tonight reflects that, judge Paula Abdul said.

And did I hear host Ryan Seacrest right when he said that more than 32 MILLION votes were tallied for this week s results show? Some shows just run out of steam after awhile, but American Idol is just soaring higher and higher.

One contestant who is taking advantage of her newfound fame is last season s Kellie Pickler, who graced the Idol stage once again last night to sing a song she co-wrote.

I though she was cute and innocent when she was a contestant on the show. She s definitely still innocent she mentioned that she tried sushi for the first time recently but what was with that Marilyn Monroe-inspired hairdo? And HELLO low-cut top and raccoon-esque eyeshadow! The three put together was just too distracting for me to listen to the words. Her look has just backpedaled. I pick the old Pickler.
