An 18-year-old West Toledo man was seriously hurt yesterday when he was hit by a car on West Laskey Road near Ridgedale Road in West Toledo, police said.

Michael Wazbinski was taken to Toledo Hospital, where he was in critical condition last night, a hospital spokesman said.

Mr. Wazbinski and a friend were waiting to walk north across Laskey about 3:15 p.m. to get a soft drink from a nearby gas station when, according to a number of witnesses, Mr. Wazbinski darted into traffic, police said.

He was hit by an eastbound car driven in the curb lane by Harry Snyder, 78, of Temperance. Mr. Snyder, who was not hurt, was traveling about 35 mph, police said.

Mr. Wazbinski suffered severe head injuries, police said.

No citations have been issued, and the accident remains under investigation.
