Permanent closing set for Superior St. block

7/9/2007

Superior Street between Madison and Jefferson avenues in downtown Toledo will close permanently today as part of changes being made as work progresses on the new arena project.

Lucas County will fence in the arena site as it prepares for demolition of structures in early September to make way for the $85 million multipurpose arena.

Lucas County bought several structures, which will be demolished.

Fencing will extend from Jefferson and Huron Street east to Frogtown Alley, north to Madison, west to Huron, and south to Jefferson.

Pedestrian access will be available to businesses along Superior Street.

The arena is to be completed in the fall of 2009.

A glass entryway for the arena will face Jefferson and Huron.
