(Posted at 1:30 p.m.) COLUMBUS About 400 people filed through the Rotunda of the Ohio Statehouse on Tuesday to pay respects to the late U.S. Rep. Paul Gillmor. Mr. Gillmor, a Republican whose political career spanned four decades, died last week at age 68. "Paul was a humble man, unselfish, thoughtful, decent, a man of his word," said Gov. Ted Strickland, a Democrat who served with Mr. Gillmor in the U.S. House for 12 years. Governor Strickland said Mr. Gillmor was "dedicated to his principles, but he understood his adversaries were not his enemies."
(Updated at 10:15 p.m.) Tuesday's primary election for three Toledo Council districts, according to unofficial results from the Lucas County board of elections, made winners of Lindsay Webb and Dave Ball in District 6; Molly McHugh Branyan and D. Michael Collins in District 2, and Michael Ashford and Ronnell Traynum in District 4. All six will go on to the runoff election Nov. 6, along with candidates in council districts 1, 3, and 5.

The dreary skies created a grim backdrop, and a sharp contrast to the clear blue of that morning in 2001."That day we felt isolated, but not for long and not from each other," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said as the ceremony began. "Six years have passed, and our place is still by your side."

(Posted at 7:57 a.m.) A driver was killed and a passenger was hurt this morning when their car crashed on State Rt. 18 just outside the city, the Ohio Highway Patrol said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was airlifted to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, a dispatcher at the patrol s Fremont post said. The names of the victims and the passenger s condition were not immediately available.

(Posted at 7:11 a.m.) A new Osama bin Laden videotape released Tuesday on the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks shows one of the suicide hijackers speaking his last will and testament into the camera as his image is superimposed upon an image of a burning World Trade Center. The videotape had not yet been posted on extremist web sites. But the IntelCenter, a monitoring group in suburban Washington, said it had obtained the videotape privately and provided it to Associated Press Television News.

Hundreds of mourners were expected to pay final respects Tuesday to Gillmor, a Republican known for his quiet, low-key approach who spent four decades in politics, including nearly 20 years in Congress. He was found dead in his apartment in suburban Washington last week.
