Meeting about Fayette cleanup is postponed

FAYETTE, Ohio - Residents probably will have to wait until January to learn about the next phase of the Fayette Tubular Products cleanup.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said bad weather has prompted it to postpone tonight's meeting that had been scheduled to discuss the project.

The agency has not scheduled a make-up date. Spokesman Dina Pierce said it likely will not be held until after the holidays.

Chemicals from Fayette Tubular are known to have leached from the site, according to an Ohio EPA investigation that began in 1994.

The company made metal tubing for air-conditioning units from 1962 to 1997.
