Ex-teacher killed in Iraq to be honored at Northwood

1/29/2008

An Ohio Air National Guard pilot killed in Iraq who was a former Northwood High School teacher will be honored at 7:30 tonight at the high school before the start of the boys' varsity basketball game against Cardinal Stritch High School.

The family of Lt. Col. Kevin Sonnenberg, whose plane crashed June 15 while flying a support mission for ground forces in Iraq, will be presented with a commemorative plaque in his honor. It will be on permanent display in the lobby of the high school auditorium.

The plaque will be presented by Jim Stewart, a high school counselor and colleague of Colonel Sonnenberg.

Colonel Sonnenberg was a teacher and coach at Northwood from 1990 to 1992 before beginning his piloting career with the National Guard.
