7/28/2008

A West Toledo man was arrested yesterday after he struck two vehicles while leading police on a chase for about three miles from the Bancroft Street-Detroit Avenue area to the University of Toledo, police said.

Kevin L. McDonald, 28, of 2122 Upton Ave., who was charged with felony fleeing and eluding as well as failure to comply with a police order, driving under suspension, and driving without a seat belt, was being held in the Lucas County jail without bond pending arraignment today in Toledo Municipal Court.

Mr. McDonald was driving recklessly southbound on Auburn Avenue near Monroe Street about 12:20 a.m. yesterday when officers began following, police said.

After he made a wide turn to go east on Bancroft, nearly hitting a railroad overpass in the 1600 block of Bancroft, the officers pulled him over on Bancroft at Lorle Street. However, he drove away, and the pursuit reached speeds of over 100 mph, police said.

Mr. McDonald was arrested at University Hills Boulevard after he struck a van and a sport utility vehicle which were stopped for the red light on Bancroft. No one was hurt, police said.
