NWOAL: Trejo returns fumble 97 yards to key Wauseon

WAUSEON - Jake Trejo's 97-yard return of a fumble recovery for a touchdown with about eight minutes left was a major swing as Wauseon knocked off Fairview

28-16 Friday night.

The Apaches were attempting to take their first lead when they fumbled.

Jesse Finney rushed the ball 23 times for the Indians, totaling 129 yards and a four-yard TD. Finney also returned the opening kickoff of the second half 74 yards for a score.

Wauseon's Dustin Makula scored the game's first points on a five-yard TD run in the first quarter.

Fairview's Brock Mosier completed 35 of 60 passes for 447 yards and two touchdowns. He did not throw an interception.

Archbold 47, Hicksville 13

ARCHBOLD - Garrett Morton threw for four touchdowns and ran for two to lead Archbold to a season-opening victory.

Morton, who completed 13 of 14 passes for 284 yards, connected with T.J. Gerken for three of those scoring strikes, covering 45, 36 and 24 yards. Morton also hit Noah Keefer with an 11-yard TD toss.

Morton also had 16 carries for 69 yards and scored on runs of 2 and 3 yards.

Archbold's other touchdown came on a 59-yard interception return by Hayden Stamm.

Justin Miller led Hicksville with 168 yards rushing on 13 attempts, scoring on runs of 4 and 1 yards.

Tinora 20, Liberty Center 0

DEFIANCE - The Rams held visiting Liberty Center to just 91 yards of total offense, including just 64 yards on the ground, to claim the shutout victory.

Meanwhile Tinora piled up 241 yards of total offense, evenly split between passing (131 yards) and rushing (110 yards).

Kipp McCann ran for 91 yards and a touchdown on just nine carries, while quarterback Landon Drewes completed 8-of-17 passes for 131 yards for the Rams.

Ayersville 27, Montpelier 18

MONTPELIER - The Pilots scored all 27 of their points in the second half to claim the come-from-behind road win.

Montpelier's Keagan Hartsock threw a 70-yard scoring strike to Joel Hartman and also added a 36-yard TD run.

Kyle Long ran for 112 yards on just nine carries, 80 of those coming on a touchdown run.

Van Wert 36, Bryan 20

VAN WERT - The Cougars scored points in all four quarters to claim the home victory.

Drew Nossaman led all ball carriers with 73 rushing yards and a touchdown as the Golden Bear offense collected 212 yards on the ground.
