City League: Northview holds off Rogers' rally
9/11/2010Northview built a 21-0 lead on the road Friday night, then hung on to defeat Rogers 21-20 in a tale of two distinct halves.
Northview (2-1) built a first-half lead on the strength of touchdown runs of three and two yards by Addison Hirschfeld and 10 yards by Zach Crampton.
But the Rams' defense stiffened in the second half, holding Northview to just 34 total yards, as the Rogers offense came alive.
Glandoy Hill scored on a seven-yard run for Rogers (1-2) in the third quarter, Nate Gregory ran 28 yards for a touchdown and Damond Powell caught a 26-yard pass from Marquise Snider with 5:19 left.
Crampton led the Wildcats with 133 yards rushing. Jordan Crayon ran for 74 yards for Rogers.
Southview 20, Start 14
Southview ran its season mark to 3-0 by holding off visiting Start.
De'Nard Pinckney, David Vandercook and Ja'Darian Bowers scored for the Cougars who led 20-7 after three quarters
Southview gained 157 yards rushing and 80 passing as Vandercook was 6 for 9 and ran for touchdown.
Start's two touchdown drives were identical, a 55-yard pass play from Tyler Ritter to Chris Black, one in the first quarter and the last in the fourth quarter.
Ritter was 5 of 12 for 159 yards and Black hauled in three passes for 150 yards for the Spartans (0-3).
Whitmer 69, Fostoria 0
At Whitmer, the Panthers jumped on top early and never let up.
Quarterback Alex Palicki threw for three touchdowns, and finished with 11 completions in 17 attempts for 174 yards. Palicki tossed a scoring strike to Nate
Miranda, and two to Nigel Hayes.
Tre Sterritt led the Panthers on the ground with scoring runs of 30 and 40 yards and 105 total yards.
Jody Webb (101 yards), Joe McNabb, Alonzo Lucas, Tyler Palka, and Me'gail Frisch all reached the end zone for Whitmer (2-1).
Fostoria drops to 0-3.
Central Catholic 10, Mishawaka Penn 7
MISHAWAKA, Ind. - The Irish improved to 3-0 in the defensive-minded game.
All the scoring occured in the second half, with Central Catholic's Patrick Wesolowski starting things off with a 33-yard field goal.
Central's Calebb Goings, who finished with 127 yards rushing, scored on a two-yard run to give the Irish some cushion.
Amir Edwards added 77 yards rushing for Central, including a 55-yard run.
Mishawaka scored with 57 seconds to play, but an onside kick failed and the Irish ran out the time.
Perrysburg 31, Waite 0
Perrysburg's Slocum brothers put on a show for the home crowd as the Yellow Jackets (3-0) shut out visiting Waite.
As the half was winding down senior quarterback Matt Slocum connected with his sophomore brother Steve on an 11-yard pass for a touchdown.
The pair would hook up later for a score in the fourth quarter on a 62-yard pass.
Alec Gaston scored once for the Jackets and was their leading rusher with 64 yards on 15 carries.
Steve Slocum had five receptions for 114 yards. Matt Slocum was 16 for 27 passing for 214 yards.
The Indians were paced by Kevin Carter with 14 carries for 62 yards. Receiver Devante Hughes had three receptions for 46 yards.
Maumee 22, Bowsher 12
Bowsher jumped out to a 6-0 lead on a DiJon Tucker touchdown before Maumee rallied for three straight touchdowns.
The Panthers got a 13-yard pass from Jake Schneider to Matt Williams.
Schneider would give Maumee the lead for good on a 12-yard run and followed that with a two-point conversion.
Brandon Phenix scored on a one-yard run.
Tucker added Bowsher's second touchdown run.
Hilliard Davidson 35, St. Francis 14
HILLIARD, Ohio - Davidson's Alex Mickley scored three times on rushes of 9, 4, and 22 yards on his way to amassing 125 yards on 14 carries.
The highlight for the Knights came on an 80-yard Justin Chandler to Xavier Braxton pass in the second quarter.
Quarterback Andy Meinert would hook up in the fourth quarter with Richard Ellis on a 19-yard TD pass.
