NLL: AW nips 'Jackets; Springfield rolls

Anthony Wayne (4-3, 2-2 NLL) carried a three-point lead going into the fourth quarter and managed to hold off the Yellow Jackets. (5-2, 2-2)

Perrysburg's Matt Slocum passed 15 yards to Alex Gaston to open the game's scoing in the first quarter, but Anthony Wayne retaliated immediately on Alex Bridges' 86-yard kickoff return.

Perrysburg got a 35-yard field goal from Ross O'Brien in the second quarter after Anthony Wayne had pulled ahead with a 3-yard run by Zach Grohowski and a 34-yard field goal by Troy Thomas.

Anthony Wayne added three points in the third quarter on a 39-yard field goal by Thomas but Steve Slocum's 35-yard pass reception from Matt Slocum cut the Generals margin to 20-17 going into the final period.

Josh Lindke hit Reed Allen for 40 yards and a touchdown for Anthony Wayne in the fourth quarter, and it was matched by Matt Slocum's 6-yard pass to Chris Fountain for a touchdown to close out the scoring.

Bridges had 128 yards in 16 carries to lead the strong Anthony Wayne rushing attack, which totaled 227 yards. Grohowski had 67 yards in 10 carries and Matt Green 57 in 10 carries. Perrysburg had 57 yards in 18 rushes.

The Blue Devils romped at home as their defense came up big early.

Springfield (4-3, 3-1 NLL) picked off three Bulldog passes and returned them for touchdowns in the first quarter. Jeremy Hill, Leroy Alexander, and Tyler Kendrick were the pick-pockets.

Alexander also had a 34-yard touchdown run while Jordan Takats was on the receiving end of a 17-yard scoring pass from Johnny Huntley; Denrick Milletti and Tyler Grogg each had scoring runs.

Blue Devil place-kicker Devon Burns was a perfect 7-for-7 on point-after conversions.

For Rossford (0-7 overall, 0-4 NLL), Diego Torres Moreno dashed six yards for their lone TD.

BOWLING GREEN — Senior running back Derek Batt blasted in from seven yards out in the second quarter for the game's only score as the Bobcats notched their first Northern Lakes League win of the season in a defensive battle.

Northview dominated statistically, compiling 12 first downs to just six for Bowling Green (2-5, 1-3 NLL), and held an edge in net yardage with 185 to 120, but could never reach the end zone.

Batt finished with 28 yards for BG as Derek Schroeder led the Bobcats with 29 on the ground. Bowling Green quarterback Israel Vento passed for 60 yards, completing 5 of 7.

Northview's Zach Crampton compiled 108 yards in 25 carries but he was basically a one-man attack as the Wildcats (3-4 overall, 1-3 NLL) totaled 123 yards via the ground. Quarterback Brian Downing completed 5 of 19 for 62 yards.
