Canadian truck driver hurt in Sylvania Township crash

A Canadian man is in serious condition in Toledo Hospital after the semi he was driving struck a trailer left on Central Avenue in Sylvania Township today, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Victor D. Church, 48, of Ontario, was extricated by mechanical means after the truck he was driving struck a trailer that had become detached from another truck about 1:40 a.m., the patrol said.

Rashaun J. Coley, 33, of Toledo was driving a semi south on Centennial Road and turning east onto Central Avenue when the trailer detached from the tractor, the patrol said. He left the trailer there, partially in the roadway, and had returned to a firm on Silica Road to get assistance when Mr. Church, traveling east on Central, struck the trailer, the patrol said. 

The intersection was closed for several hours early today.
