  • Bowling Green wallops Miami

Bowling Green State University women’s basketball coach Jennifer Roos was looking for a way to motivate her team for Sunday’s game against Miami. “We talked about the two [lost] games last year, and we talked about the rivalry with Miami,” she said. “But then I put out that they would get an extra day off if they played well. And I think they ignored everything else and remembered the last thing — and earned a well-deserved break.”

    Late Falcons’ bucket not enough

Jehvon Clarke’s 3-pointer with 9.9 seconds left tied the Bowling Green State University men’s basketball team’s contest against Akron Sunday. Yet Clarke appeared in the postgame news conference looking worn and tired, not excited about his clutch basket. That’s because the Zips’ Quincy Diggs trumped Clarke’s basket by making a jumper from the left wing with 2.3 seconds left to hand the Falcons a 65-63 loss at the Stroh Center.

Rockets use balance to knock off Kent State

Five players scored in double figures — none of them standout Inma Zanoguera — in the University of Toledo women’s 83-55 win Sunday at Kent State. The Rockets (11-11, 6-5) were led by Janelle Reed-Lewis’ 16 points — which matched her season high — and a career-high 15 by freshman Elena Alfredo. Alfredo and Ana Capotosto (11 points) each made three 3-pointers.
