The Toledo Mud Hens are using heaters under this domed tarp.
Jake Tyler, turf manager for the Mud Hens, finds home plate under the snow Monday, 03/03/14, at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio. The Mud Hens are using heaters under a tarp to thaw the field in preparation for the start of the baseball season.
It appears as if a dome has been constructed at Fifth Third Field, but it’s just the Mud Hens’ way of fighting the harsh winter to get the field ready by using heaters under a tarp to thaw the ground. The season opens at home April 4 against Louisville.
Heaters are helping to thaw the 16 inches of snow/ice that are covering Fifth Third Field.
