SANDUSKY — A Port Clinton man died following a one-vehicle crash late Saturday night in Erie County.

Leon McCoy, Jr., 22, was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center by life squad following the 11:25 p.m. crash on Wahl Road near Brunner Road in Margaretta Township. He was then flown to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Sandusky post. He later died at the Cleveland hospital.

Mr. McCoy was driving west on Wahl Road and failed to negotiate a curve, according to the patrol. The car went off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole, mailbox, and tree, throwing Mr. McCoy out of the vehicle, troopers said. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report.
