    Late surge races Perrysburg to state 3200 relay title

    COLUMBUS — Redemption.That is what the Perrysburg girls 3200 relay team has chased for a year since finishing a disappointing second place at the 2013 Division I state track and field championships.The Yellow Jackets finally put an end to the pursuit on Friday evening when Jordan Doore, Taylor Monheim, Alexis Kemp, and Courtney Clody became champions by winning the eight-lap race. Clody crossed the finish line for a school and Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium-record time of 9:04.63. PHOTO GALLERY

    Otsego’s Cole Gorski vaults to win

    COLUMBUS — Whether it’s academically or athletically, Otsego senior Cole Gorski is No. 1. On May 25, Gorski gave a speech at Otsego’s commencement ceremonies as the valedictorian of his class with a 4.21 grade-point average. On Friday at Ohio State University’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, he became the Knights’ first state track and field champion in more than 20 years by clearing a personal-record of 16 feet, 2 inches in the Division II boys pole vault.     Liberty Center's Nick Demaline wins shot put title

    COLUMBUS — One week after registering the No. 1 shot put effort in the nation among this year’s high school athletes, Nick Demaline was primed and ready to close his prep career in style at the 107th annual Ohio boys track and field meet. The explosive 6-foot-2, 300-pound Liberty Center senior did just that Friday afternoon, winning the Division III state title with a heave of 66 feet, 3½ inches at Ohio State University’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
