Findlay police pursue driver for 38 miles

FINDLAY -- Findlay police pursued a driver for almost 38 miles Thursday evening before spike strips placed in Wyandot County near the U.S. 23-U.S. 30 split stopped the car and two Columbus women were arrested, police reported.

A Findlay officer attempted to stop a car at 7:16 p.m. in the 1200 block of Tiffin Avenue because it matched the description of a vehicle reportedly involved in the theft of a cell phone at the Radio Shack at 2320 Tiffin Ave. about five minutes earlier, police reported.

But the driver led police on a chase through the city to I-75 and then U.S. 23, heading toward Upper Sandusky, police said.

Wyandot sheriff‘‍s deputies set out spike strips just before the pursuit entered their county. The strips deflated at least one tire on the suspect car, but it continued on, police said.

An Upper Sandusky police officer put out another set of spike strips. The driver pulled over with all but one tire deflated near the exit for County Road 330 about 28 minutes after the pursuit began, police reported.

The driver, Jolisha McDonald, was charged with failing to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, petty theft, and driving under suspension.

The women, who are both 22, were booked into the Hancock County jail.
