But the Blade's photographer was incidental to this scene. John Sinkovic, X-ray technician at St. Vincent's Hospital, shown with Louise, was at the zoo to X-ray several of the chimps.     Participants marched together during the 27th annual “Candlelight Walk for a Drug-Free Community," Monday, October 17, 2016 at Whitmer Memorial Stadium in North Toledo. More than 1,000 students and their families participated in the event, which included recognition for an essay contest, raffle drawings and a short walk around Whitmer High School.

The individual boys runner-up was Waite senior Demetrius Alexander (18:00.3).

The three-in-one haunt is open for business in West Toledo, inside what was once a Rite Aid at 1030 W. Alexis Rd.

    Hunger Banquet

    This year's Hunger Banquet was held on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Perrysburg. About 35 people participated in the event, in its third year. The banquet is an exercise designed to highlight food inequality and the choices people make surrounding access to food by dividing participants into classes.

    About 600 people — including library patrons and staff, Toledo-Lucas County Public Library trustees, elected officials, and local dignitaries — gathered Monday to cut a yellow ribbon and to tour the library's new structure at 3900 King Rd. in Sylvania.

  • Northwest Ohio has always attracted its fair share of politicians, and during presidential election years, visits from candidates seeking the presidency are not uncommon. But in 1940, something less common happened: A major political party nominated a business leader with little to no political experience as its presidential candidate. And one of the first big campaign stops that candidate made in Ohio was in the city of Toledo.
