wins Eileen and Elaine Helmke, at R.R. Baker Co. Tailor Shop in downtown Toledo, are shown getting things ready for Toledo Day. This archive photograph was taken by Blade photographer Herral Long on Oct. 17, 1950. The Toledo Day event was a semi-annual affair that started in the late 1930s, and was sponsored by Downtown Toledo Associates. Toledo Day usually was held in May and October every year, to encourage shopping in downtown Toledo. Gifts were awarded for spotting mystery shoppers, and a drawing was held to give one lucky winner the top prize — a $250 U.S. Savings Bond. A $50 savings bond and a $100 savings bond were also awarded.
