The satellite image taken by NASA Earth Observatory on Jan. 9 show the extensive ice cover on Lake Erie that developed this winter. The persistent cold temperatures and abundance of sub-zero days created ice that covered 92.2 percent of the total surface area of the Great Lakes on March 6, according to the Weather Channel.
