Coach: Marc Gibson, first year

Last season: 6-4, 4-3 NLL

Returning letter winners: 19

Returning starters: Offense 2, defense 2

Schemes: Spread/4-3

Top players: Seniors Jordan Spellis, 6-0, 205, QB\SS; Zach Graven, 6-2, 180, WR/FS; Zac Scarbrough 6-0, 305, DT/OT; Joe Szymanski, 6-2, 245, C/DE. Juniors Cahle Puhl, 5-10, 195, LB; Zak Mathias, 5-10, 170, WR/P.

Outlook: Gibson takes over for John Boles, the winningest coach in Maumee history. Boles coached 15 seasons (1998-2012), had a 86-73 record, and led the Panthers to six playoff appearances. He also guided the Panthers to the first playoff win in program history. Maumee captured two Northern Lakes League titles (2001 and 2009) under Boles.

Gibson coached at Clyde for the last eight years where he compiled a 70-22 record. He led the Fliers to six Sandusky Bay Conference championships and four playoff appearances. Gibson was the head coach at Sidney (2001-2004) and Brookville (1997-2000), and has a career record of 111-60 in 16 years.

The Panthers have 51 players including 19 seniors, but overall inexperience is a concern.

The team must replace from graduation the quarterback, leading rushers and top receivers.

“New, young, and inexperienced players will be counted on to contribute quickly,” he said.
