Hearings set for liquor permit renewals
11/1/2000The state Division of Liquor Control has scheduled permit renewal hearings Nov. 29 for two East Toledo nightclubs.
City council last spring, acting on a request from Toledo police, submitted a formal objection to the state, asking it not to renew the liquor permits of the Main Event, 137 Main St., and Club 128, 128 Main, which are located across the street from each other in the River East Entertainment District.
The permit for 128-130 Main is held by R&K Entertainment, Inc., for which Rob Croak is company president. MDV Enterprises, Inc., whose president is Gregory R. McElroy of Maumee, holds the permit for 137-141 Main, but Mr. Croak operates the bar there.
The permits expired May 31. The renewal hearing had been scheduled for Sept. 1, but was rescheduled for the later date at the request of city council, Patty Haskins, spokeswoman for the liquor control division, said.
The hearings will be conducted via video conferencing from a studio at WGTE-TV, Channel 30, at 136 Huron St., beginning at 1 p.m.
No decision on the permits will be made at the hearings, Ms. Haskins said.
A hearing officer will compile reports based on the testimony given. The reports will be forwarded to Rae Ann Estep, superintendent of the division, who will make the final decision on whether to renew the permits, Ms. Haskins said.
