NORWALK - Norwalk Furniture Corp. will lay off 100 workers because sales have slowed.

The company employs about 850 people and makes upholstered furniture sold under the trade names J. Raymond, Hickory Hill and Norwalk. The plant primarily produces sofas and chairs.

"These big-ticket purchases typically are the first to be postponed when consumers become unsure of their economic future," said company President Jim Gerken.
