Power outage affects Point Place residents

About 8,300 Toledo Edison customers in Point Place were without power for about 90 minutes last night after a short circuit at the utility's Lapier substation near Suder Avenue and Manhattan Boulevard, authorities said.

The customers lost power at 7:53 p.m. All affected customers had power restored by 9:12 p.m. The cause of the outage was not clear, Gary Mortus, a utility spokesman, said.

The Collins Park Water Treatment Plant, 600 Collins Park Ave., was one of the affected customers. It lost power for about 25 minutes until its backup generators were activated, Bob Stevenson, the Toledo commissioner of water treatment services, said.

The outage did not affect the quality of treated water, John Franks, senior control room operator at the plant, said.
