Bond set in robbery, rape on Machen Street

6/5/2001

A Machen Street man was ordered held yesterday on three $50,000 bonds on two charges of rape and a charge of robbery.

Louis Boyd, 51, of 460 Machen, was arrested Sunday after a woman told police that Mr. Boyd grabbed her about 2:30 a.m., choked her, and pulled her into his apartment.

The woman told police he stole $32 from and sexually assaulted her, threatening her with a tire iron. Police said Mr. Boyd attacked her again after she tried to escape around daybreak.

The woman fell out of Mr. Boyd's second floor window about 6:45 a.m., when a neighbor called the police. The woman was arrested as well Sunday on several unrelated warrants.

Judge Arlene Singer set a preliminary hearing on the matter involving Mr. Boyd for Monday at 9 a.m.
