Court delays arraignment of suspect in infant's death

7/13/2001

The arraignment of Travis Williams, 23, of 918 Pinewood Ave., for the aggravated murder of a 10-month-old girl was continued yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to give him time to hire an attorney.

Judge Ruth Ann Franks continued the proceeding until Thursday at the request of Peter Rost, an attorney who said he was asked by the defendant's family to appear for the proceeding.

Mr. Williams faces the possibility of the death penalty if convicted of the murder July 1 of Adora Foster, the daughter of Aleise Woods, 22, of 372 Dennis Ct. Ms. Woods was the girlfriend of Mr. Williams.

Because of the child's injuries, prosecutors are seeking the death penalty using a provision of Ohio law that allows for capital punishment in homicides where the victim is 13 years old or younger. Mr. Williams is being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a bond of $500,000 set by Judge Franks.
