The death Thursday of a 16-month-old boy who was found a day earlier in his South Toledo home with his head and neck trapped in the footboard of a bed has been ruled an accident, according to preliminary autopsy results.

Nazya Bruce, of 804 Lorain St., died from a lack of oxygen to his brain that was caused when he suffocated after he became trapped in the footboard, Dr. Diane Barnett, a Lucas County deputy coroner, said yesterday.

The boy was found about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday by Debra Robinson, his grandmother and foster parent.

He died at 10:35 a.m. in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.
