West Unity woman is indicted in boyfriend's strangulation death

10/11/2001

BRYAN - A West Unity woman has been charged with the strangulation death of her boyfriend June 29.

A grand jury yesterday indicted Linda Ames, 33, charging her with murder in the death of Thomas Gordon Flint, 52, of Bryan.

Ms. Ames was arrested in Bryan shortly after the indictment was returned. She was being held in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio at Stryker.

She will be arraigned today in Williams County Common Pleas Court.

Police responded to an emergency call and discovered Mr. Flint's body June 30 at 304 East Butler St.That was Ms. Ames' home at the time, Williams County Prosecutor Craig Roth said.

Mr. Flint and Ms. Ames had a romantic relationship, Mr. Roth said. Mr. Flint lived with his brother, Roy, at another house on the same street.

A coroner's report did not rule Mr. Flint's death as a homicide until Aug. 11, nearly six weeks after police found the body of the Navy veteran who had worked for the Pioneer Transformer Co. in Pioneer, Ohio.

But Mr. Roth said at the time police all along had been investigating the death as a homicide.

Ms. Ames could be sentenced to 15 years to life if found guilty of murder.
