Fostoria dad imprisoned for injuring baby daughter

11/3/2001

FOSTORIA - A Fostoria man was sentenced in Seneca County Common Pleas Court yesterday after pleading guilty to violently shaking his 4-month-old daughter.

Alex Ledesma, 26, will serve four years in prison for one count of child endangering. Ledesma became upset with his young daughter, Sydiah, in January, 2000, because she wouldn't stop crying. Authorities said he shook the girl so violently that he caused severe brain hemorrhaging and detachment of the retinas.

A Seneca County grand jury indicted Ledesma in February, 2000, for child endangering and intimidation. The intimidation charge, which was dropped, was filed after Ledesma allegedly threatened to kill a witness.

Ledesma's daughter, now 2, has the mental capacity of a 3 to 5-month-old because of her injuries.
