An armed central-city man who barricaded himself in a dwelling at the Brand Whitlock Homes for nearly 2 1/2 hours early Saturday surrendered and was being held at the Lucas County jail on a charge of having weapons under disability.

George S. Jones, 25, was arrested after negotiators convinced him to give himself up at 6:20 a.m., according to a police report. Jones fled into his girlfriend's home at 3901 Franklin St. after police responded to gunfire reports at the home.

Jones refused to come out, police said. His girlfriend and her child left the home at 5:33 a.m., police said. A rifle was recovered, police said.
