Bar owner finishes work-release term

2/23/2002

An owner of Nick & Jimmy's Bar & Grill has completed seven days with the Lucas County work-release program after pleading no contest in Sylvania Municipal Court to fleeing from police officers on a motorcycle and resisting arrest.

Sylvania prosecutors amended felony charges last month against Nicholas A. Tokles, 50, of 5004 Davenport Dr., in Sylvania Township, to misdemeanor negligent assault and fleeing for the Sept. 2 incident involving city and township police.

Mr. Tokles' driver's license remains suspended until May 24, but he has work privileges to drive. He left the work-release program Wednesday.

Mr. Tokles was observed about 7:30 p.m. with a female passenger weaving in and out of traffic in the 5700 block of Monroe Street. He cut behind the Beverly Hills Plaza in the township and rode down a curb, police said. Mr. Tokles, who did not have his motorcycle endorsement, lost control and fell onto the grass after leaving the plaza.

Sylvania police Officer Amy Martin was elbowed in the nose and Sylvania Township police Officer David Jankowski's watch was broken during the struggle.

Visiting Judge Thomas Pletz sentenced Mr. Tokles to 60 days in jail for the assault conviction, suspending 53 days. For fleeing, Judge Pletz gave Mr. Tokles 50 days and suspended 43 of them and ordered the seven remaining days to be served concurrently. He was fined $500 and ordered not to have any similar offenses for three years.
