A Toledo police auction of 113 vehicles yielded $93,870 — and some bargains for bidders —Officer Kathy Trautman said.
The auction, held yesterday, included those impounded by police and not claimed by their owners, which grossed $64,270. After expenses of the auction, the proceeds from that portion of the auction will go to the city general fund.
The auction also grossed $29,600 from the sale of vehicles that were forfeited, generally as drug-related seizures, Officer Trautman said. The proceeds from those vehicles goes to the law enforcement trust fund.
Abandoned vehicle sale highlights included a 1954 Packard Clipper, which sold for $800, and a 1985 Dodge Aries, selling for $50. A 1994 Lexus LS400 sold for $8,700.
Among the forfeited vehicles, a 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SuperSport sold for $7,600, and a Buick Regal Grand National sold for $12,500 — the top bid for a vehicle yesterday, Officer Trautman said.
