Police hunt for suspect in 3 robberies

7/10/2002

A man who acted as if he had a handgun in his jacket took $177 from a video store during one of three robberies authorities believe he committed between late Monday and early yesterday.

The man entered General Video, 1124 North Reynolds Rd., and the BP gas station, 324 South Detroit Ave., and demanded $10 and $20 bills from the clerks, police said.

The man went into the video store about 2:15 a.m. and asked a clerk for money. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man reached over and took the money.

About three hours earlier, he tried to rob the gas station and twice threatened to shoot the clerk, police said.

A few minutes after fleeing the BP, he returned to the gas station and demanded $10 from a woman who entered the station after the first robbery attempt.

He received no money from the BP or the woman he tried to rob in the second robbery attempt at the gas station, police said.
