Former Toledo officer guilty of drug offense

10/3/2002

A 19-year Toledo police veteran who resigned from the department Tuesday pleaded no contest and was found guilty of a misdemeanor drug offense yesterday during a hearing in Toledo Municipal Court.

Dale Jackson, 42, was charged with one count of felony drug abuse, possession of crack cocaine. The charge was amended to a misdemeanor drug-abuse offense. The case was sent to probation. Mr. Jackson is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 15.

The prosecution is recommending two other misdemeanor charges - possession of drug paraphernalia and drug abuse, possession of marijuana - be dismissed. Mr. Jackson is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16 on those charges.

Mr. Jackson was relieved of duty after he was arrested in his home Sept. 9. Investigators serving a search warrant in the home in the Bancroft Street-Westwood Avenue area found a small amount of marijuana and a few smoking pipes. Nine days later, he was charged with having crack cocaine, police said.
