Cedar Fair reports rise in attendance at parks

1/9/2003

SANDUSKY — Attendance climbed last year at Cedar Point and set a combined record for the 11 amusement and water parks owned by Cedar Fair LP, the company said yesterday.

After a few tough years of battling the weather and other problems that hurt visitor numbers, Cedar Point's attendance jumped 5 percent to 3.25 million last year from 3.1 million a year earlier. The company attributed the growth primarily to the introduction of the park's 15th roller coaster and the addition of a Peanuts-themed ice show.

For all of its parks, Cedar Fair said 2002 attendance was 12.4 million, 4 percent higher than the 11.9 million a year earlier. At its six amusement parks, visitors totaled 10.9 million, up 3 percent, and at its five water parks 1.5 million, up 15 percent.
