3/25/2003

A jury was selected yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for the trial of a Toledo man charged in the shooting death of the reputed leader of the Outlaws motorcycle club.

Opening arguments will be held today in the trial of Robert C. Wymer, 26. He is charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Bruce Hicks, 45, of North Hawley Street during a melee Oct. 24 at the Rider's Edge bar, 531 Oak St.

Mr. Hicks died later at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He was the younger brother of Wayne Hicks, who at one time was the second-highest ranking Outlaw in the country.

Wymer of 645 Segur St. also is charged with felonious assault for allegedly shooting Timothy Conkright, 41, of Oak Street in the fight. Both the murder and felonious assault charges carry specifications that a gun was used. Judge Charles Wittenberg is presiding.
