Police, fire cadets complete training
6/6/2003Thirteen Toledo police cadets and one from Oregon will graduate today after 25 weeks of academy training at Owens Community College.
The new Toledo officers will hit the streets Monday for a four-month field-training program in which they are paired with field-training officers who will evaluate their progress.
The 55th Toledo police class started Dec. 13. The cadets received training in firearms, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, emergency-vehicle operations, crime-scene searches, evidence collection, traffic accident investigation, and building searches. They also had physical fitness training.
Ten Toledo firefighters graduated from the fire academy May 26 after 25 weeks of training. The four women and six men also are emergency medical technicians and will be trained as paramedics.
The Toledo police cadets are Joseph Ball, Mark Barnes, Leon Cavanaugh, Donald Comes, Thomas Corser, Raymond Espinosa, Candi Johnson, Erik Kenney, Michael Moore, Patrick Myslinski, Ronald Paris, Neil Piasecki, and Michael Schroeder. Bruce Heuer will be the new Oregon officer.
Graduation is at 7 p.m. in the college's student health and activities center, 30335 Oregon Rd. Judge Gene Zmuda of Toledo Municipal Court will give the commencement address. Oregon Police Chief Thomas Gulch and Toledo Police Chief Mike Navarre will present badges to their new officers.
