Woman gets probation for false police report

A Springfield Township woman who pleaded no contest to filing a false police report in connection with her disappearance in June was sentenced yesterday to 90 days in jail, which were suspended, and placed on probation for a year.

Tondra L. Smith, 39, of 1839 North McCord Rd., was found guilty last month of making false alarms, a misdemeanor offense. In addition to the suspended sentence and probation, Toledo Municipal Court Judge Francis X. Gorman ordered her to have drug treatment and screens, if necessary, and to continue her employment.

The Lucas County sheriff's office charged her June 24 after she filed a report with Toledo police that stated she was abducted June 6 at knifepoint by a man at Hill Avenue and Reynolds Road.

The car she was borrowing was found in Georgia. She was located June 17 in Florida. She filed the police report and on June 22, subsequent to the investigation, she told a sheriff's detective the crime didn't occur. She said she left the area to get away from family problems.
