Jail ends overcrowding emergency for 2 counties

4/28/2005

STRYKER, Ohio - An overcrowding emergency has been lifted at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, reopening the regional jail to new inmates from Lucas and Henry counties.

The facility began accepting prisoners from those two counties Tuesday afternoon, a day after declaring the overcrowding emergency, according to a CCNO news release yesterday. On Monday, Henry and Lucas counties were above their prisoner allotments, triggering the jail's second overcrowding emergency in a month.

The jail's inmate count yesterday morning was 590, or 92 percent of capacity. An overcrowding emergency can be declared at the facility whenever its overall population is at 95 percent or above for three straight days.
