Statements admissible in Fremont slayings case

8/4/2005

FREMONT A judge has denied a defendant s request to suppress statements he made to authorities last year after his arrest in the slayings of two Fremont-area residents.

Judge Harry Sargeant, Jr., of Sandusky County Common Pleas Court indicated in a ruling Monday that he would allow the admission of statements that Jeffrey Zenowicz made to the Sandusky County Sheriff s Office in July, 2004.

Mr. Zenowicz, 34, of Marblehead, Ohio, is facing nine charges, including four counts of aggravated murder, in the July 3, 2004, killings of Claudia Fonseca, 30, and Leslie Slone, 40. If convicted of the aggravated murder counts, he could be sentenced to death.

The bodies of Ms. Fonseca and Mr. Slone were found July 5 at a home owned by Ms. Fonseca s brother, Eric, in Rice Township. Ms. Fonseca, a former girlfriend of Mr. Zenowicz, was drowned in a bathtub; Mr. Slone s throat was slashed.

The trial is set for Oct. 31.
