Toledoan released early in fatal-punch incident

2/9/2006

A Toledo man who punched a co-worker in the parking lot of the South Toledo business where they worked, causing the 19-year-old man s death, yesterday was released early from prison.

John Winlock, 25, served nearly one year of the four-year sentence he was given last year in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for involuntary manslaughter in the death of John Roa.

Judge Gary Cook granted Winlock s request for early release and placed him on community control for four years. The sentence modification also included Winlock s being placed in a work-release program for four months followed by an undetermined stay on electronic monitoring.

Winlock, 25, struck Mr. Roa while on a lunch break Sept. 16, 2004 outside Northwest Circulation Sales Inc., 5301 Southwyck Blvd.
