Robber is sentenced to 17-year prison term

A Toledo man who pulled off a string of armed robberies at restaurants, pharmacies, and a gas station on the city's west side, was sentenced yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to 17 years in prison.

Victims of Khalik J. Reed's crime included four Rite Aid pharmacies, a BP gas station, a Cottage Inn Pizza shop, a KFC restaurant, and the Clarion Hotel-Westgate, authorities said.

Judge James Bates sentenced Reed to 15 years for the robberies. He also was ordered to serve the remaining two years of a three-year sentence for a 2005 conviction. He won't be eligible for early release from prison and won't be able to seek parole.

"This guy went on a robbery spree in November and used a gun to do it, helping to feed his drug addiction,'' said Louis Kountouris, an assistant county prosecutor.

Reed, 34, of 1303 South Cove Blvd., was convicted on two counts of aggravated robbery and four counts of robbery.

Judge Bates said Reed was sent to a county drug treatment program in 2005 for a conviction in Common Pleas Court, but was kicked out for failing to comply with the rules.

Reed was arrested Nov. 30 in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 5600 block of Lewis Avenue.
