High court disbars local lawyer

5/19/2006

A local lawyer who previously was disciplined for misconduct in the handling of the legal affairs of clients was disbarred this week from practicing law in Ohio.

The Ohio Supreme Court voted unanimously to revoke the license of Jeffrey Thomas Vild, who maintained an office in Oregon.

The disbarment stems from findings made by the court's Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline on an additional four complaints that were filed against him in February, 2005, by the Toledo Bar Association.

The complaints against Mr. Vild include agreeing to provide legal representation but failing to take promised actions, failing to appear in court for hearings in a civil case, and failing to file an answer to an opposing party's motion to dismiss.

Mr. Vild, 46, was admitted as a lawyer in the state in 1985 after he graduated from the University of Toledo College of Law.

He was handed an indefinite suspension in November for several violations of court disciplinary rules for lawyers. He also was publicly reprimanded by the court in 1998 for taking a case that he was not competent to handle and neglecting an entrusted matter.
