HILLSDALE A Hillsdale County Circuit judge, citing a defendant s frequent appearances in his courtroom, has sentenced Jonathan Boggs to 39 years to 64 years in prison for slaying his father.

Judge Michael Smith, who sentenced Boggs, 28, on Monday in Hillsdale, noted it was the fourth time Boggs had appeared before him on felony charges.

This time, Boggs drew a major penalty for the March murder of his father, Michael Boggs, 55.

The elder Boggs was choked, then shot twice in the head, at the end of an argument with his son over the young man s work habits and drug use. The victim s body was buried in a field near the home where the two men lived.

He confessed and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
