Toledo firefighters, city reach tentative accord

7/29/2006

City of Toledo officials said they reached a tentative agreement yesterday with Toledo Firefighters Local 92.

Details will not be disclosed until union ratification. Firefighters will schedule a series of meetings to discuss the agreement before voting on the pact Aug. 8, a city spokesman said.

Jim Martin, president of Local 92, could not be reached for comment yesterday. The firefighters have been working without a contract since the beginning of the year.

In May, Mr. Martin said he hoped the 479-member union would reach an agreement after the city forged a three-year contract with the Toledo Police Patrolman's Association that called for a 6.5 percent raise over three years and an additional 3.75 percent city contribution to their pension.

That pact has officers paying more for prescriptions and picking up up healthcare co-pays they didn't before.
