Attorney quits role in Pawn dispute in Rossford

9/19/2006

The Toledo attorney chosen as the Rossford Board of Education's lead counsel in settlement talks with a Christian rock band that sued the district has resigned.

Fritz Byers, in a letter dated Sept. 15, told the school board of his decision regarding his involvement in attempting to resolve the lawsuit filed by the band Pawn.

Pawn was barred from playing during an anti-drug assembly at Rossford High School in 2004. Four members of the band are appealing a federal court ruling that dismissed its lawsuit against the school district.

The school board voted last week to enter into settlement discussions with the band.

The board last night decided to obtain more information about a possible new lead counsel, Robison, Curphey & O'Connell, of Toledo, or any other law firms school board members want to pursue.
