Council clerk to leave city employment

Mary Chris Skeldon, assistant clerk of Toledo City Council, will leave her city job at the end of December to join a private marketing firm.

Ms. Skeldon, 54, who was the public information officer for two mayors, said she is retiring and will work a reduced schedule as a senior public relations consultant for Funk, Luetke Skunda Marketing Inc.

Ms. Skeldon was hired by the city parks department in 1970, was public information officer for city parks from 1985 to 1990, and the city's recycling coordinator from 1990 to 1995.

She became spokesman and speech writer for Mayor Carty Finkbeiner in his first term in 1995 until 2001, when she transferred to council, and returned as executive assistant and then public information officer for Mayor Jack Ford in 2002. She moved to her present post with council in 2005.
